James Clerk Maxwell

Biographical notes

 

 

       
It is born in via India Street, 14 Edimburgo, son of a modest lawyer. Remained orphaned of the mother to eight years, it pours its affection on the father, to which the life will remain legacy  for all.  In 1847 it enters to the university of Edimburgo where it studies physics, mathematics,  philosophy and chemistry, and meets Forbes, Campbell and Tait that it will remain friends for all the life.
In the October of the 1850 it is enrolled to the Peter house Cambridge.   Bachelor to Cambridge in 1854 with the title it of "second wrangler". In the 1856 renunciation to one shining accommodation to Cambridge in favor of a chair in one small city of  province, Aberdeen, accepting  the chair of natural philosophy to the Marischal College, of Aberdeen for more close being able to be to the old father, that it dies in same year (3 you open them 1856). In the month of jun of the 1859 spouse Katherine Mary Dewar daughter of the chancellor of the Marischal College.
In 1860 he is university professor to London to the King' s College.
Eight December 1864 Maxwell introduces, to the Royal Society,     a relationship from the title it "To Dynamical Theory of the Electromagnetic Field", in which its famous equations are contained.
 The ideas of vanguard of Maxwell are only prevailed to the attention of   the scientific world after 1873, when it comes published, to Oxford, the treaty "Treatise of electricity and magnetism",   concentrated of all science electrical worker seen second the theory of the action  through means, with perfect mathematical theory and correspondent  to the truths experiences them, giving not only a unitary explanation of   the optical and electromagnetic phenomena and introducing the field concept  , but destroying that one of ether and allowing to preview, for via pure mathematical, the possibility of the existence of electromagnetic waves  .
  

In the 1865 Maxwell it comes hit from a serious disease and a strong nervous exhaustion and is forced to withdraw itself in its residence  to Glenlair. The long stay in hospital prolong until to the 1871 year in which chip ax the chair of Physics to Cambridge and prepares the physics laboratories that will come dedicate to you to the 16 to you Cavendish and inaugurates jun 1874.Settles in this chair has  way to consult the documentations and the studies leave you from Cavendish that in 1879 provide to publish.  The same disease of the mother, a cancer to the stomach, is the cause of its passing; the great physicist has only 48 years and comes buried in the church of Glenair, the village where has passed its infancy and where  the father has lived.
