London, 30 March 1896
Dear Mr. Preece,
I
take the liberty 'to send this with a young Italian named Marconi, who'
came into this country with the idea to adopt a new system of wireless
telegraphy, which is working. This system appears to
be based on the use of mikrovalovnih and "coherer" Oliver Lodge, but
from what he tells me it appears that went considerably beyond what I
believe others have achieved in this field.
I thought that
she could be so 'nice to see and hear what' which tell ', and I think
that what will probably realized' Your interest.
I hope not to have too disturbed.
Believe me,
His sincerely,
(Signed) AAC Swinton

Caro Sig. Preece,
probabilmente
sara' di Suo interesse.
Spero di non aver troppo disturbato.
Mi creda,
sinceramente suo,
(firmato) A.A.C. Swinton
W.H. Preece Esq. C.B.

Sir
William Henry Preece (1834-1913), chief engineer (General Post Office),
was an eminent personality 'in the field of electrotechnology and his
reputation was known in Italy. Indeed,
when in 1897 dead 'Gallileo Ferraris, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
wrote to the Embassy of Italy in London (Doc.n.695 of July 14, 1897-No
229-Folder Embassy in London-Historical Archive of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Rome) asking the question JAFleming, WHPreece, SP
Thompson and Lord Kelvin (ie 'William Thomson) to replace Gallileo
Ferraris in the chair and compression.
